Following the success of recent singles including “Hypnotize” and “Ventil-8” (released on the legendary Metalheadz label), John B continues his run of standout productions, blending cinematic influences with cutting-edge Drum & Bass.
Originally composed by Klaus Doldinger for the 1981 submarine thriller Das Boot — and later adapted into a Eurodance hit by U96 in the 90s — Das Boot holds a special place in John’s musical journey. Having first encountered the U96 version during a school exchange in Germany, John brings a lifetime of passion for ’80s synths, soundtracks, and electronic innovation into this new DNB interpretation.
Staying true to the spirit of the original, no samples were used — every element was painstakingly replayed and produced. John meticulously recreated the signature sounds with period-correct synth textures, including Emulator II-style strings and the classic Atari speech synthesizer for the iconic robotic voice snippets. The result is a tasteful and respectful homage, combining the uplifting synth line with staccato basslines, powerful two-step drums, and a fresh Drum & Bass energy that perfectly bridges past and future.
“Das Boot” follows a wave of strong momentum for John B, including the success of his covers project Wyld Dogz, the launch of his ambient music alias Whispered Light, and continued growth on Twitch and Patreon, where fans can access exclusive mic-free DJ set recordings and early releases.
